Risp comes to us from
Pine Ranch in Wyoming (thank you Anne Larson). He ran in Open field
trials in Europe before being imported in and continuing on to trial
(and win) here in the US. He has been working cattle as well as
sheep before arriving here to me at Plum Ridge.
He is just a wonderful
dog to have around! He is sweet, outgoing, friendly .. loves everyone
he meets and WANTS TO WORK anytime you ask him. He gets along wonderfully
with my other dogs (big or little, male or female) and can often
be found camped out beside my duck pen hoping I will allow him to
work the "quackers".
On sheep he has proven
himself worthy already. He has style that just amazes me (I can't
believe he can move that fast that low to the ground!). He works
well off when needed and is not overly pushy on me when working
the entire flock. But his worth in the pens and on hard protective
ewes with lambs became very clear right away. He leaves the lambs
alone but will not back down when a ewe protectively comes at him.
He grips cleanly on the nose and does not take cheap shots that
are not called for. I have watched him take a few hits that make
me cringe but he has been able to turn the ewe no problem. But when
I say "That'll do" he knows his job is done and he is
a happy go lucky sweet heart!
This beautiful boy has
found a wonderful place in my heart and a spot on my list of who
will be trailing fast!
Risp was on qualifying
score from his WTCH (he never NQ'd ASCA) by the end of the trial
season in 2005. He earned his HXA sheep & duck titles with all
placements and never an NQ either. The first weekend out with his
AKC titles he earned points toward his AKC herding championship
as well.
He is sustain a injury (nasty bull calf at a ranch trial), the end
of 2005 trial season. He has come back from his injury a bit slowly
but is always ready to work (even on three legs, or limping).
Immediately in our 2006
trial season he went out with a wonderful bang and finished his
ASCA Working Trial CHAMPIONSHIP with first placements and the typical
wonderful compliments from judges and spectators.
We look forward to doing a few USBCHA trials in 2006 and hopefully
working more on that AKC HC if we can!!
